TAL Holdings, one of the fastest-growing family-owned building material centers in the Pacific Northwest, announced recently they have reached an agreement in principle to acquire the five-store chain, Orofino Builders Supply (Orofino), located in Orofino, Grangeville, Kamiah, and Lewiston. Will Crockett, the current owner of Orofino Builders Supply, told the Clearwater Tribune, “I made the decision to sell the company to TAL Holdings, parent of Tumulum Lumber. TAL is a 5th generation family business with a culture and history very similar to ours. They approached me and asked me what my succession plan was. I personally didn’t have a clear plan, as my kids have made the decision that they wanted to pursue other interests and not take over the business. My management team and I will remain the same. We hope to operate very much status quo, fully invested into our communities.”
Crockett went on to say, “As part of this deal, my stores will maintain our current “Identity”, but we will be consolidating our business names under the name “Best Built Builders Supply”. This new name leverages the familiarity our customers have with the name “Builders Supply”, and ties my Lewiston business name of Best Built into the brand. Additionally, all our Design Centers will be rebranded to “Windows, Doors, and More” (WDM). WDM is the name of the business I bought in Lewiston that caters to door, window, and installed sales. TAL owns 24 lumberyards across Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana; they will bring us excellent buying power, economies of scale advantages, and strong industry expertise.”
“I am thrilled to welcome Orofino to the TAL family of brands,” shared Jason Blair, CEO of TAL Holdings. “Orofino’s values, culture and emphasis on community are a great fit with TAL. We could not be happier to join forces with such a well-established company and expand our presence in the Idaho market.”
Over four generations, the Crockett family grew the business from a small neighborhood hardware store to a five-store operation that includes hardware stores, lumberyards, and design centers. The Orofino store began in 1928 when Oren Crockett bought an interest in the JM Bryant store in Orofino. In 1930, Oren and his wife, Nell, bought out John Bryant and started Crockett’s Hardware. Will Crockett has continued in his family’s tradition of putting the needs of the customers at the forefront.
Crockett added, “Finding the right partner was very important to us. TAL understands the importance of upholding our legacy while at the same time investing in continued growth. We are excited to benefit from the resources and scale of a larger organization
All current management teams will remain in place, with the stores continuing with the same business hours. The change of ownership will be finalized on Monday, April 11. Customers should note that Friday through Sunday, April 8 through April 10, all stores will be closed for inventory.
